Biography: Kathleen grew up in a large, noisy family. She is the oldest of nine children including seven girls in a row and two boys on the end. Kathleen went directly through high school and college and was admitted to law school at age 20 after completing only three years of college. She graduated first in her law school class and was admitted to the bar at age 23. She married Timothy Meredith in 1981. They have two children, Benjamin, who was born in 1984, and Patrice, who was born in 1987. In 2004, Timothy Meredith was sworn in as an Associate Judge of Maryland’s Court of Special Appeals. Kathleen began her legal career with Semmes, Bowen & Semmes in 1978. In 1982, she left her firm to join the Maryland Attorney General’s Office under Stephen H. Sachs. While in the Attorney General’s Office, Kathleen had the pleasure to serve with such distinguished colleagues at Judge Diana Motz, Judge Susan Gauvey and others. Kathleen returned to Semmes, Bowen & Semmes, in 1984 and shortly thereafter was made partner. She continued her association there until 1995. During her years with Semmes, Bowen & Semmes, Kathleen developed a reputation for excellent trial skills in the defense of professional liability claims. From time to time, however, she dabbled in plaintiffs’ work and quickly developed a love for that side of the litigation process. On April 1, 1995, Kathleen left Semmes, Bowen & Semmes along with her partner, Charlie Iliff, and two associates, David Wildberger and Stephan Brennan, to establish the firm of Iliff & Meredith, P.C. The firm is a general litigation firm but concentrates its practice on prosecuting plaintiffs’ medical negligence claims and on defending legal malpractice claims.
